About ccPDP3

The Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) continues the policy development process (PDP) related to the retirement of country code top-level domains (ccTLDs). This third-ever ccNSO PDP aims to develop policy recommendations for the ICANN Board, which will include a review mechanism pertaining to decision on the delegation, transfer, revocation, and retirement of ccTLDs.

In March 2017, the Council decided at the time to split the work in 2 phases:

  • Phase 1: is about to conclude its work. This group focused on the retirement of the delegated Top Level Domains associated with alpha-2 codes assigned to countries and territories listed in the ISO 3166-1 standard. Read more here.
  • Phase 2: focus lies on the review mechanisms

The Phase 2 work will begin after the ccNSO Council approves the roster of volunteers. As this WG will undertake its activities within the framework of the ccNSO Policy Development Process 3, the limitations with respect to the scope of a ccPDP, specifically by Article 10 and Annexes B and C to the ICANN Bylaws shall also limit the scope of the WG's work.
