History: auDA was established in 1999 as the not-for-profit policy authority and industry self-regulatory body for the .au domain space. The formation of auDA was the result of a consultative process involving industry stakeholders and the Australian Government. auDA develops and implements domain name policy, licenses 2LD registry operations, accredits registrars, implements consumer safeguards, facilitates the auDRP, and represents .au at ICANN and other international fora.
auDA was endorsed by the Australian Government in December 2000 and was recognised by ICANN as the suitable operator for .au under a Sponsorship Agreement signed in October 2001.
