Peter Vergote is currently Legal & Corp. Affairs Manager with DNS Belgium, the organisation that is in charge of the management of the .be internet top level domain (ccTLD registry). He is responsible for the legal policy and corporate affairs of the organisation. He is also in charge for the external relations with sector organisations such as CENTR and ICANN. Peter joined DNS Belgium as staff member in 2001 and was previously engaged in the organisation's Board of Directors since its creation in 1999.
He was business owner for the gTLD projects of DNS Belgium (2012-2015) which resulted in the launch and full deployment of the new created .vlaanderen and .brussels TLD's.
Peter was elected as a member of the CENTR Board of Directors for 2 consecutive 2 years terms (2011-2015). Since February 2012 he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors. CENTR (Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries) is a representative organisation for ccTLD's of the European region and is ranked among the most influential organisations in the domain name industry.
Peter used to be employed with the BIPT, the national telecommunications regulator (1995-2001) where he was inter alia involved with the preparation of specific legislation and the follow up on matters related to internet and domain names. During his employment at BIPT, Peter was also the representative for Belgium in ICANN's GAC.
Peter graduated from the University of Ghent (Belgium) in 1994 and obtained a degree of Master of Laws (cum laude).
