Call for Nominations to the ccNSO Council

The nomination period will open on 29 September 2016 at 00:00 UTC, and will close on 20 October 2016 at 23.59 UTC
The members of the ccNSO are invited to elect one ccNSO Councillor per Geographic Region (Africa; Asia Pacific; Europe and North America) and one additional Councillor for the African Region
According to ICANN Bylaws Section 4 (Membership), paragraph 8:


"Any ccNSO member may nominate an individual to serve as a ccNSO Council member representing the ccNSO member's Geographic Region. Nominations must be seconded by another ccNSO member from the same Geographic Region."


Each ccNSO member may nominate one candidate for the ccNSO Council and each member can second one candidate from their region.
In addition, the members in the African region, where one Council member stepped down before the end of his term, are invited to nominate a 2nd candidate.

Candidates may be any individual and do not need to reside in the region or be a citizen of a country in the region for which they stand.

In order to be able to nominate or second a candidate, the ccTLD manager must be a member of the ccNSO by 29 September 2016.

PROCEDURE FOR NOMINATIONS AND SECONDING NOMINATIONS

The first step of the election process is the nomination, and secondment of the nominations, of candidates. Below you will find all procedural details.

The Nomination and Secondment procedure starts at Thursday 29 September 2016, 00.00 UTC and closes on Thursday 20 October 2016, 23.59 UTC.

In order to nominate or second a candidate, a ccNSO member must be a member of the ccNSO by 29 September 2016.

Nominations should be sent by e-mail to the Election Manager using the included template (see below). Please send your email to: ccnso-nominations@icann.org

PLEASE NOTE: If you send your Nomination or Secondment, you will receive an email asking you to confirm that you have sent an email to ccnso-nominations@icann.org. In order to ensure that your Nomination or Secondment is valid, you need to respond to that email.

The names of the nominees will be made public at http://forum.icann.org/lists/ccnso-nominations, as soon as a candidate has accepted the nomination.

Additional instructions only for the ccNSO Members in the African region:

  • When nominating a candidate for the regular Council election (starting in March 2017), please write "(Regular Election)" after the nominee's name.
  • When nominating a candidate for the special Council election, please include "(Special Election)" after the nominee's name.
  • When seconding a candidate for the regular Council election position (starting in March 2017), please include "(Regular Election)" after the nominee's name.
  • When seconding a candidate for the special Council election, please include "(Special Election)" after the nominee's name.

Nominations or Seconds should be sent by e-mail to the Election Manager at the following e-mail address: ccnso-nominations@icann.org

PLEASE NOTE: If you send a Nomination or Second, you will receive an email from ICANN asking you to confirm that you have sent an email to ccnso-nominations@icann.org. For your Nomination or Second to be valid, responding to the email requesting confirmation is obligatory.

Accepting Nominations

The Election Manager will confirm the nomination by sending an e-mail to the respective candidate, requesting acceptance of the nomination.
Nominations will be archived at: http://forum.icann.org/lists/ccnso-nominations/.
The Election Manager shall confirm the list of the Nominees.

In the event that a region has more than 1 candidate per open position, a vote in that region will be called.
