History: - UVG was delegated authority for the .gt ccTLD through an exchange of e-mails with Dr. Jon Postel, after UVG had requested domain name uvg.edu for itself. Dr. Postel replied that since we were the first ones from Guatemala to connect to the Internet, would we like to operate the .gt ccTLD. - Between 1992 and 1995 the operation of .gt ccTLD was done through UUNet. There was not much to do because UVG was the only institution connecting to the Internet, through UUCP. In 1995 we finally obtained authorization from GUATEL (the national phone company, and monopoly) to bring the Internet to the country and the Registrar function was brought to Guatemala - On August, 2006, UVG signed the Accountability Framework with ICANN
