History: NIC Chile has been in charge of managing registrations under ".CL" from the time researchers of the Department of
Computer Science of the University of Chile established the first international UUCP connections in 1987. For the first ten years, registrations were free and there were no written rules, but in 1997 NIC Chile established formalized its service,
including domain registration fees and a dispute resolution system based on arbitration, the first of its kind in the world. Currently is an online arbitration system.
NIC Chile was also the first Spanish-language ccTLD to begin offering registrations for IDN names.
