History: In September 1990 IANA assigned to the Academia Nacional de Ciencias the coordination and administration of the Top Level Domain .cr for Costa Rica. The administration of the TLD in the assignment of domains names is governed under the rules of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), and Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) in the administration of IP addresses.
