Special ccNSO Council Elections – North America

Ms. Becky Burr has stepped down from the ccNSO Council on Monday 7 November 2016. Therefore, and to fill her vacancy, the ccNSO members in the North American Region will need to elect a candidate. The person elected for the special council election will take the seat on the council immediately after being appointed, and until March 2019.

According to ICANN Bylaws Section 10.4 (Membership):


"Any ccNSO member may nominate an individual to serve as a ccNSO Council member representing the ccNSO member's Geographic Region. Nominations must be seconded by another ccNSO member from the same Geographic Region."


Each ccNSO member may nominate one candidate for the ccNSO Council and each member can second one candidate from their region.  Candidates may be any individual and do not need to reside in the region or be a citizen of a country in the region for which they stand.  In order to be able to nominate or second a candidate, the ccTLD manager must be a member of the ccNSO by 7 November 2016.

PROCEDURE FOR NOMINATIONS AND SECONDING NOMINATIONS

The first step of the election process is the nomination, and secondment of the nominations, of candidates. The nomination period will open on 8 November 2016, 00.00 UTC, and will close on 29 November 2016, 23.59 UTC.

Nominations and secondments of nominations should be sent by e-mail to the Election Manager (ccnso-nominations@icann.org) using the respective template below.

Accepting Nominations

The Election Manager will confirm the nomination by sending an e-mail to the respective candidate, requesting acceptance of the nomination.

Nominations will be archived at: http://forum.icann.org/lists/ccnso-nominations/. The names of the nominees will be made public as soon as a candidate has accepted the nomination.

In the event that a region has more than 1 candidate per open position, a vote in that region will be called.
