History:

May 21, 2007. After being essentially closed for the past two (2) years, Nic LC today re-opened the .LC Internet registry.

Nic LC also announced that this is the first in a series of additive steps that will soon lead to a fully automated, reliable, stable, efficient and effective ccTLD Registry, with wide international appeal.

The .LC Registry provides exclusive domain name services for the .LC domain name space, under direction of ICANN and IANA, the international organizations responsible for the technical coordination of the Internet.

In addition to representing the island nation of Saint Lucia, the .LC extension may be used to uniquely represent "Limited Companies" (LC) such as LLCs, PLCs, and Ltds.

October 19, 2007. Nic LC announces the completion of its transition to an automated EPP registry-registrar protocol. All accredited Nic LC registrar are now able to securely connect to the automated registry and manage all of their .LC domain names directly, using an automated or web-based front-end to their registrar account.

Please contact Nic LC for more details of how to connect to the automated LC registry.

Castries, Saint Lucia - 13 October 2010 - Nic LC today announced Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) has been enabled for the .LC Top-Level-Domains. .LC was officially signed on October 5, 2010 by Nic LC's registry services provider Afilias. "Latin American and the Caribbean represent one of the fastest growing regions of Internet users. The number of Internet users here has increased by more than 100 fold over the last ten years. As this population grows and consumes more services and content online, it is important that we increase DNS security within our country," said Albert H. Daniels of Nic LC. DNSSEC protects the DNS from cache poisoning exploits which can allow malicious entities to intercept an Internet users' request to access a website, and redirect or eavesdrop on the user without their knowledge, and with no ability to reassert control. DNSSEC introduces digital signatures to the DNS infrastructure and ensures that DNS responses came from their authoritative source.

"Afilias is pleased to be able to improve the security for .LC by introducing DNSSEC," said Ram Mohan, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Afilias. "DNSSEC can help secure Internet users against these malicious cache poisoning attacks and lays the foundation for the next generation of security that is required for the evolution of the Internet."

Afilias is a global provider of Internet infrastructure services, and Nic LC manages and provides Domain Name Registry services for the ".LC" Country Code Top Level Domain name (ccTLD).
